Marvelous Mom - Brooke - BabybyBrooke

It's Monday and you all know what that means here on the EtsyMom blog! Time to meet this week's Marvelous Mom. As many of us mommies know, it can be a little challenging to find just the right accessories for the little men in our lives...so if you are looking for one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items for your tyke, you will adore BabybyBrooke! This shop also has fun items like hair clips that would make super sweet stocking stuffers. Read on to find out more about the owner, Brooke, and her big dreams!

Tell us yourself!

I'm a 30 year old stay at home mom of two wild and crazy kiddos (2 and 4 – boy and girl) that make sure I never have a dull moment! I’ve been married for almost 9 ½ years to my best friend that I also claim as my third child (he’s a 5 year old at heart).

We live in beautiful, sunny Orange County California. I love all things artistic, creative, retro and unique and would love to one day make fun, modern yet modest wedding dresses (one day …… sigh).

What makes you unique as a woman?

I’m a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning or having things in their place (you never would guess that if you came over right now though! Ha ha!)

What do you love about Kids?

The crazy things t hat they say and all the energy they have! Who needs a tv when you have a toddler to entertain you?! I also admire how quick they are to forgive and how quick they can make new friends. My favorite thing about my kids though is their laugh and smile.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

I’m an interior designer by trade and own an older home that’s in need of some major TLC – so I feel like I’m always doing something to “improve” my house. I recently painted our family room and hall closet and now am onto refurbishing furniture.

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

http://www.etsy.com/shop/BabyByBrooke

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

Currently – hair accessories, pacifier clips, little man ties, super hero capes and masks and toddler felt watches with more to come (like little man bow ties and button covered earrings)

Where do you create?

Mostly in my kitchen / dining room but once the kids are in bed I’ll venture out into the family room where the tv is.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Mostly from my kids and the things that they’re interested in along with my surroundings.

How did you get started in your line of business?

After I stopped working and became a full time mom, I was craving a creative outlet. Since I had my daughter my mind was geared towards her and babies. I started making pacifier clips and baby blankets then got introduced to bow making from some friends and it’s snowballed from there. I always wanted to have an etsy shop – or some way to be able to get my stuff out there but never did anything about it, life was always too crazy. So for Christmas last year my husband surprised me and set up my shop, picked the name and got it going for me so I no longer had an excuses.

How do you promote your business?

Still working on that!I recently just did my first giveaway and can’t wait to do more. I don’t have the time to devote to my shop like I’d like too (I have so much more then what is one my shop!) so I make up for it by doing boutiques. I’ve done 5 this year and have 2 more lined up before Christmas.

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

Not to over commit myself or have unrealistic expectations – but to enjoy the ride!

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Don’t stress about things and enjoy what you do.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

Marvelous Mom - Kathleen - Love You More Jewelry Designs

It's Marvelous Mom Monday on the blog! Grab a cuppa joe and spend a few minutes getting to know Kathleen, the talent behind Love You More Designs. Her beautiful jewelry, created from upcycled vintage treasures, will surely warm the heart of someone on your Christmas gift list!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m a wife and mother of three who loves to create jewelry, scrapbook and dabble in home décor . I love to write and I especially love to blog!

What makes you unique as a woma
n?

I guess I’m unique in that I used to be a lawyer (gasp!) but I’m so far removed from that life now, and loving the ability to just be creative and not stress about the small stuff.

What do you love about kids?

I love that kids love unconditionally. I love that kids say the cutest and sometimes most outrageous things! I love that we can learn from our children every day. I love that kids are absolute sponges when it comes to learning new things.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

HA! What else am I currently doing? I’m raising three kids, ages 11, 9 and 6. I make jewelry, scrapbook, teach Sunday School and blog like crazy whenever I can. Notice that house cleaning did not even make the list! Please don’t tell. What is the address for your Etsy Shop?

http://loveyoumoredesigns.etsy.com

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

I offer unique vintage, repurposed shabby chic jewelry including charm bracelets, necklaces and earrings. I started out with a passion for charm bracelets but I was really surprised to find out how much I enjoy making charm necklaces as well.

Wh
ere do you create?

I create jewelry in my home craft room/studio.

Where do you find your
inspiration?

I find inspiration from some of my favorite jewelry design
ers as well as whatever vintage stuff I can get my hands on to repurpose. I love looking at an old piece of jewelry and asking myself, “Now what else can I make out of this?” Flea markets and barn sales rock!

How did you get started in your line of business?

I got started because of my daughters, really. They wanted me to help them create some simple jewelry pieces to sell one summer at the beach and I started from there and just kept going!

How do you promote your business?

I really don’t promote my shop like I know I should. My blog is one place where my shop gets some exposure. I also belong to a few social networks of artisans where I can promote my stuff. Etsy Teams are also a good way to put yourself out there.

Cha Cha Cha Charm Bracelet, $28.50

Halloween Charm Bracelet, $22.50

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned since starting this business is that sales are icing on the cake, at least for me. I’m blessed in that I don’t have to do this to make a living so I can revel a bit more in the process of creating and enjoy blogging to its fullest without feeling the stress of having to sell. (But don’t get me wrong ~ I still do a real happy dance whenever one of my pieces sells! It’s great to know that others love your work, too.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

My advice to someone just starting out would be to believe in yourself, really put yourself and your creations out there. Start a blog and you’ll be amazed to find how many new friends you’ll make!

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

On Etsy: two I really like are http://Silvivia.etsy.com (romantic, embellished fashions) and http://LesPetitsTresors.etsy.com (burlap and feedsack pillows). For jewelry supplies I love to shop at http://Ornamentea.com

What are your other sites?

My blog is at http://charmbraceletdiva.blogspot.com

Be sure to stop by Kathleen's Etsy shop and leave a comment here telling her which item is your favorite!

Marvelous Mom - Charity - Mama Hoot Designs

EtsyMoms is a team of fabulous women entrepeneurs who are moms first! Each Monday we "go behind the scenes" of a team member's shop to get to know more about her as a woman, mom and artisan. This week we take a peek into the life of the talent behind Mama Hoot Designs, Charity. Don't you just adore her shop name? And you will fall in love with her innovative, personalized creations for baby and you!

Tell us about yourself!

I am a stay-at-home-mom to a beautiful girl, dubbed Lil Hoot (16 mos) and our fur-baby, Zeke aka Hoot Dog (4). I am also a Christian, an Army veteran, a cyclist, a knitter and a wanna-be baker. Becoming a mother somehow allowed me to release my fear of creative failure and just try new things. I don’t back down from a challenge and I tend to just dive right in.

What makes you unique as a woman?

I believe that we're all more alike than different but there are a few things that make me, me. I'm an open book.

What do you love about kids?

Hugs, kisses, endless curiosity, love of getting messy, smiles, laughter...it's an endless list!

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?
Raising a toddler consumes most of my time, but I try to make time for morning walks, a few special messy activities, baking and bike riding throughout the week. I write stories and blog . I just finished a corduroy coat for my daughter. I have also started quilting and am participating in a Virtual Quilting Bee with some of my Ravelry Mom friends.

What is the address for your Etsy shop? http://www.mamahootdesigns.com/

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

Primarily personalized and custom gift items for babies, toddlers and Moms. My newest and favorite items are Growth Charts and Quiet Books. Both are personalized for the intended child. I even have a Create-a-story quiet book option where I write a story/rhyme to go along with the quiet book. I also have crayon buckets, fabric alphabet sets, personalized blankets, birthday shirts and sundresses. I also design custom made-to-order tote bags, purses, diaper bags and shopping cart covers where the client can choose their own fabric and options.

Where do you create?

I took over a spare bedroom in our basement with two great windows. It is a great space, but still pretty bland. I have grand ideas, just not enough time to do them!

Where do you find your inspiration?

Primarily, my daughter and our friends' children. My favorite product, quiet books, were inspired by a quiet book sewn by my aunt when I was a child. It is a fun and interesting learning book for kids that also has intricate elements that are intriguing as a crafter. How did you get started in your line of business? It seems like most people answer with "I've always been interested..." and I did learn the basics from my mother and grandmother as a kid but it was not until a few years ago that I really got into it. I walked into my local yarn shop, learned to knit and got absolutely addicted. When I got pregnant I really got into sewing. Then my machine died and I started looking at new machines. My new machine really helped me unlock my creative potential and that's when my husband and I decided it was time to go ahead and open an Etsy shop.

Fabric Alphabet, $38

How do you promote your business?

I talk to everyone I meet and I take along or wear (or have Lil Hoot wear) something that I've made, even if it's not something in my shop. I blog and participate in other people's blogs.

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

I recently started my business so I am definitely still learning. Primarily, I have had to learn balance - between being online and creating product; between work and life; between shop owner and Mom.

Personalized Kids Fleece Blanket, $38

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Don't read too much. It is important to make sure you have yourself set up correctly and legally. It is important to make connections with other Etsians and crafters. But I found it absolutely overwhelming to read all the advice, rules, suggestions, etc. Make a product, love that product and promote it.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

Most of my favorite online shops are places where I buy materials -

But not all of them -

Marvelous Mom - Tricia - Handmade Whimzy

It's Monday morning, which means it's time to meet our Marvelous Mom of the week! We feature an EtsyMom each week with the hope that readers will in some way connect with her; whether it be through discovery of a similar background, a shared goal or finding a new favorite place to shop!

Read on to find out how Tricia, of Handmade Whimzy, has put her seemingly endless talents to use while taking time off from her full-time career to be home with her son.

Tell us about yourself!

I am a 42 year old stay at home mom of 1 - a son who is 11 and started middle school this year. My "real" job is a critical care nurse but I’m putting my career on hold for awhile. I’ve been married for a hundred years and we have 1 dog and 1 cat. When my son is older, I hope to go back to school and get my Master’s and become a Nurse Practitioner.

What makes you unique as a woman?

I’m the only me there is!

What do you love about Kids?

They’re so much fun! Every stage of my son’s life has been filled with wonder. I love spending ti
me with him and seeing the world through his eyes.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

Right now, I’m working on some pincushions that I hope to enter in our county fair Arts and Crafts contest in September. I’m also hoping I can turn them into some cool Christmas tree ornaments that would make great teachers gifts when December rolls around.

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

http://HandmadeWhimzy.etsy.com

What do you off
er in your Etsy shop?

The main thing I’m working on now are the aprons that I just started selling this year. I have full and half aprons. I also make beaded and ribbon bookmarks, which have been very popular. I originally sold jewelry but I’m slowly fazing it out so that I can concentrate on my sewing.

Where do you create?

I’m lucky enough to have my own craft room. It’s the smallest room in the house but it’s all mine. I recently repainted and rearranged. You can see photos here on this blog post:

http://handmadewhimzy.blogspot.com/2010/07/new-sewingcrafting-room.html.

I painted the walls a light aqua/turquoisey color and rearranged everything so that I have more sewing/cutting room. I love it! I spend all of my free time in there – sometimes just watching TV.

Where do you find your inspiration?

The fabrics I use give me inspiration. I only buy what I like and I buy in small quantities so that I only make 2-3 aprons from each style. This keeps me motivated to finish one apron so that I can cut into the next gorgeous fabric.

How did you get started in your line of business?

I started selling jewelry on Etsy 3 years ago. But as any Etsy jewelry seller knows, it is a hard category to break into as there is sooooo much competition. I started sewing again on a regular basis a couple of years ago. Mostly just sewing skirts for myself. Then I decided to start making aprons. I made one as a "test" apron and got opinions on the design on my blog. After making several changes, I started listing them in my shop. Then I decided to just change the focus of my shop all together and let all the jewelry expire so that I could focus on my sewn items.

How do you promote your business?

Promoting is really hard for me. I use my blog to show new items and announce sales. I use Facebook also. I try to list or renew something in my shop everyday. I hand out lots of business cards when I do local craft shows.
I’d say promoting is definitely an area that I need to work on.

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

That my family comes first. At first, I became so focused on wanting to grow my business and really make a profit that I forgot the reason I’m a stay at home mom is so that I can be available for my son. I’m staying at home so that I can volunteer at his school, go on field trips, help with homework and just be there. He’s my main focus, not my business. I’ll only have a few more years with him at home but I can work or build a business for years after that.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Really research what you’re getting yourself into. If you’re just doing it to earn a few extra bucks while you’re staying home with your children, then keep that in mind. Don’t expect the sales to just come rolling in because you opened an internet store. To REALLY get a business started takes a lot of time and money and you have to be willing to put your all into it.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

Amazon.com

Fabric.com

On Etsy I love to browse through card and soap shops. Those are my 2 favorite things to buy. I love the soap from sophiecls.etsy.com. She has my favorite – lemongrass scent.

I also love flandersfield.etsy.com and several other photography shops that I spend lots of time I don’t have clicking through and dreaming about where I would hang all the lovely pictures.

KathyPanton.etsy.com has been one of my favorites for a long time.

I also love browsing the handmade tote section and I always love the totes from PinkLemonadeBags.etsy.com.

I could go on and on about my favorites because there are some really great handmade things on etsy.

What are your other sites (i.e. Blogger, Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter)?

Marvelous Mom Monday - Marsha - This n That Handmade Accessories

It's amazing what an abundance of talent mixed with a little encouragement can do! This week's Marvelous Mom, Marsha, is a wonderful example of the success that can happen when opportunity and preparedness meet. With such a passion for her work and the dedication to carving out time to build her business, there is no place to go but up! Let's find out how Marsha balances home life with running her Etsy Shop, This n' That Handmade Accessories.

Tell Us More About You!

I am originally from Jamaica, I am married to my wonderful husband AJ, and mother to 2 boys (Julian, 4 and Nigel, 2). I am also an Occupational Therapist and I work full time. We live in Lithonia, Georgia - southeast of Atlanta. Where do I find the time to crochet or make jewelry? I don't know but I find time because it's very soothing and enjoyable to me. Lately, I crochet more than I make jewelry because it's easier to crochet around the kids - there's no beads for them to get into!

What makes you unique as a woman?

That's a good question...I'm not sure what makes me unique as a woman, but I do know that I am a genuine person with a big heart, who loves to laugh and make others laugh. I like to surround myself with positive and uplifting people.

What do you love about Kids?

Children are so honest and funn
y! I also love how they imitate their parents in the different things that they do and say. You have to be very careful what you teach children directly and indirectly. What I love most is to hear a child's hearty laugh...it tickles me and makes me laugh just as much.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

Hmm...let's see...work, dinner, laundry, homework, cleaning! LOL

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

www.jcurlsthisnthat.etsy.com

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

I offer quality hand-crocheted fashion accessories such as hats, scarves, and neckwarmers. I am also going to be adding kitchen and bath accessories soon so I'm excited about that! I also offer handmade jewelry in my shop.

Flower Beanie with button - Brown and Beige, $15

Where do you create?

Mostly on my couch while I watch or listen to TV alone or with the kids. I also crochet as I wind-down for the day in my bed at night. I love to crochet in the car on road trips too while my husband drives. I get a lot done! When making jewelry, I'm usually a the the kitchen table long after the kids have gone to sleep.

Striped Ripple Scarf - Orange and White, $20

How did you get started in your line of business?

Ever since I can remember, I've loved crafts. When I was little, an aunt taught me how to crochet and I thought it was the coolest thing! So for years after that I crocheted basic granny squares, then I got into weaving on a loom and cross stitch. When I was a teenager, I got into making beaded jewelry. When it became a huge fashion trend, I decided that I wouldn't buy anything that I could make myself! So, I then deviated away from needle crafts and got into jewelry making for quite a while. I even sold some items to friends and co-workers for the holidays to make extra pocket money. Late last year, I joined a social network where I met some other women who crochet and would post pictures of their projects. That inspired me to go back to crocheting, learning and re-learning techniques. I started making things and posting them on that site, people started placing custom orders, and then began to encourage me to open my own "store" online! That was the greatest compliment to me. Any artisan at some point wonders if people will like their work as much as they do. And they did! So, there began jcurlsthisnthat...from the encouragement and support of the ladies on that forum as well as my friends and family. My shop is called "This n That" because I make/sell different items vs. just hats or just jewelry.

Grey Newsboy Cap, $12

Where do you find your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from fashion trends that I see as well as colour combinations that strike me. I love taking pictures of people and scenery as well, so colours that are found naturally in the environment also prompt me to create. My inspiration for some items also comes from the desire to be different and not look quite like everybody else, but still stand out in a good way.

How do you promote your business?

I promote my business by wearing items that I've made for myself, and I promote on Twitter and Facebook. I now have a Facebook fanpage that includes a store front so that people can purchase items there as well. My husband, AJ, also tells people about my business which I appreciate very much.

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

Patience, patience, patience! We all would prefer for our items to sell like hotcakes right away! But it just doesn't work that way. Focus on promoting, taking good pictures and the buyers will come. I've also learned not to celebrate a sale until PayPal says the payment is complete! LOL.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

I would tell a new seller that having an online shop requires a lot of work if you are serious about wanting to sell. This is where your hobby truly becomes a business. There's a lot that goes into it, in order to get a lot out of it. Many of us have busy lives but you must set aside some time each day to focus on your business whether it is to create, take photos, or promote...or all of the above! Also, I've learned that pricing is important. Pricing your items too low can really hurt your bottom line and some buyers may equate low price with low quality. Remember that your items are handmade, not mass produced in a factory so take your cost and time into consideration when setting your prices.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

I also like www.amazon.com, www.ebay.com, www.atouchofstardust.etsy.com, www.danieleleah.etsy.com, www.guchet.etsy.com, www.curlmart.com just to name a few!

What are your other sites (i.e. Blogger, Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter)? Twitter:

My facebook fanpage is www.facebook.com/thisnthathandmadeaccessories

Marvelous Mom Monday - Sarah - Melon Dot Designs

It's Marvelous Monday here on the blog! Time to get up close and personal with our featured EtsyMom seller, Sarah, of Melon Dot Designs. Her designs combine fun and fresh with a touch of whimsy to dress your child in style!

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Sarah and I am an artist, designer and mom living in the midwest with my husband and two littles, Ava, age 3 (terribly close to 4) and Hudson who is 21 months old. We also have a much heard dog named Izzy. My husband works crazy hours and so my business is primarily a nap and after bedtime venture. I have so many ideas that I want to see added to my shoppe and so many projects that I want to do just for myself in the near future. Before having children, I taught in an elementary school; however, after Ava was born I developed a passion for kid’s style and design and have since opened Melon Dot Designs. I am also writing a blog called Little Citizens of the World. I feature lots of amazing designers and products, from the divine to street-style cool. There’s also a lot of my life as a mum and the world as viewed by my littles mixed in. It seems that new things are happening all the time, we are a busy little family.

What makes you unique as a woman?

Honestly, I am unique just because I am me. I try to always be myself—if you think about it that is not always the easiest thing to do in the moment.

What do you love about kids?

What is there not to love? They have so much energy, they have a fierce love, they want to know it all, see it all, and try it all. It is fun to play with them while being a kid again myself.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

I am a stay at home mom and I am embracing these fleeting years. Someone once told me that some moments may seem never-ending but, the years will pass by so quickly. And, when that tantrum strikes again, I remind myself of this and I look at my two littles and wonder how they have grown so much in the short little time that they have been in my world.

I also love to read and craft with my kids. I am also working with a local art gallery to bring more kids’ activities to our small town. Again, th
ere are lots of things that I want to try and photography is one of them to add to the list. Since it is still summer we are also big on being outdoors and whenever we can we like to be in the water.

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

http://www.melondot.etsy.com

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

In my shoppe right now, I am offering ‘unique custom clothes for littles.’ I {heart} custom orders. I use wool felt, eco-felt, and designer fabrics to create appliqués. I have also just added embroidered pieces to my shoppe.

Where do you create?

I create in my little corner of the house….i.e. the dining room table. It is off to the side in our home and well, I really don’t think that the room would get used for its real purpose anyway. I dream of my own crafting room some day and stash away photos in a file of things I desire for that room and my future dream house.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I am inspired by so many things. I have a very long list of blogs that I follow so there’s alwayssomething that sparks my thoughts. I also love just listening and watching my kids. They always have something creative or imaginative to add. Fabric also plays a big part in design and I find delight in browsing through the local store.

How did you get started in your line of business?

I was given my grandmother’s sewing machine awhile back and to do all her craftiness justice I started tinkering with sewing and have not stopped. I just wish I could have asked her to teach me more—that lady knew everything.

Blooming Flowers tee, $20

How do you promote your business?

I am just starting out and really hope to continue promoting and finding new ways to get the word out. My husband is a big supporter and I try to make sure that he always has a business card or brochure with him. Also, I didn’t even realize it but, I just reached my one year shoppe anniversary!!! That may require some celebrating in the store!

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

My business is a way for me to still be a me that is not just a mom. This is a venue that allows me to be creative and try new things. That said, I don’t let my shoppe take over my life. My kids can do that all on their own.

love you to the moon. rocket tee, $20

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Make sure that what you are doing has meaning and value to you. And, always love what you do. Life is to be enjoyed.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

I have a terribly long list of favorites on Etsy with such a wide range of talents and items.

Marvelous Mom Monday - Lindsey - Twirl Away

EtsyMoms face the challenges of taking care of family, home and business head on! As team members we share many common goals and tricks of the trade, but each Mom has seemingly developed her own formula for success. Read on to find out more about our Marvelous Mom Lindsey, the multitalented talented owner and designer of Twirl Away,
specializing in lovely skirts for little girls!

Tell Us About Yourself!

Hello! My name is Lindsey and I'm the mom of two girls. Madeline is 4 and Amelia is 2. My husband and I have been married for 7 years and much enjoy the adventure of life together! I'm an art teacher, though my "occupation" changed to stay-at-home-mom when we started having kids!

What makes you unique as a woman?

Hmmm... the idea of a pedicure makes me cringe, and I have little to no pink in my wardrobe! Though having two little girls in the house means that I paint their toenails often and their closets are overflowing with pink!

What do you love about Kids?

I love watching my girls grow and learn and change. I love watching them play and pretend together. Some days it seems like most of my job as mom involves reading books, cleaning up spills, changing diapers, and kissing owies. I wouldn't have it any other way!

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

See answer above! :) Besides the normal mommy stuff, I love to paint and knit. Also coffee with my friends, being silly with my girls, dinner with my husband, and strolling art fairs in the summer!

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

http://www.twirlaway.etsy.com/.

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

Right now, it's all lovely skirts for little girls! But stay tuned... I have many ideas for the future! And check back SOON for holiday/Christmas skirts!

Where do you create?

I have a corner of the basement set up as my studio right now! With an area for kids to create also, my daughters and I are often together in this space, creating side by side!Where do you find your inspiration? Of course having two daughters is inspiration enough to make lots of cute skirts and clothes! As far as design, I really just get to create what is going on in my head and then change and develop it from there. Also, I'm very inspired by the amazing fabric designers whose fabric I use often in my skirts.

How did you get started in your line of business?

I love to create. I feel that I'm a better mom and wife when I'm able to use my gift of creating! As an artist I've gone through different phases. Right now it's sewing. I was informally taught how to sew from my mother and always saw my grandmother sewing too. When I had my girls, I started making them things like blankets, burp rags, dresses, and skirts (lots of skirts!). So it took off from there!

How do you promote your business?

I really have relied on word of mouth to get things started. I have been fortunate to be noticed by a few bloggers in the "Etsy world" and have had some features on different blogs. I'm a part of a couple teams in the Etsy community and I have my skirts in one shop in Australia too, which is a thrill! Also, special emails and offers just for past customers is a great networking tool in spreading the word!

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

Go with the flow! Since Twirl Away really isn't a full time job for me, I've learned to promote and be smart about my shop set up, but after that, keep creating and let the "ebb and flow" of sales happen. Some weeks there's lots of orders, some weeks there's none! I try not to get frustrated when it seems like my skirts are just floating out there in cyberspace with no one seeing them!

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

In preparing to open my shop, I outlined some goals and put on paper where I'd like to be in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year. This has been helpful in seeing if I'm meeting my goals. Also, taking good photos is so important. With the help of a good friend, I'm continually trying to make my skirt photos as eye-catching as possible.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

On Etsy... We got my mom a really beautiful bracelet from www.noelcharm.etsy.com with grand kids names on it!
And www.freashsqeezedfabric.etsy.com is a great fabric resource! I admire work from so many different shops, let's just say that I probably wont have to leave my computer for Christmas shopping this year!

What are your other sites (i.e. Blogger, Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter)?

Just on Etsy for now, but a Facebook page will probably be coming soon!

Marvelous Mom Monday - Barb - Mimi Marie Designs

Happy Monday all! If you're looking for beautifully, handcrafted jewelry that warms the heart and spices up any outfit, then look no further than the shop of today's Marvelous Mom. Her handstamped silver jewelry is beautiful and inspiring. Let's get to know Barb, the fabulous mom and creative talent behind Mimi Marie Designs (http://mimimarie573.etsy.com/).

Tell us about yourself? I am a work at home mom of two energetic boys ages 2 & 4! I live in New Jersey with a super supportive husband and one crazy dog named Daphanie.

What makes you unique as a woman? Hmmm.. I guess I would say being able to balance being a wife, mom and business woman. The everyday life of kids, husband, house, etc., really leaves little time for operating a business. I really think all working moms are unique just by being able to have it all and being able to balance it.

What do you love about Kids? I love the innocence of kids and how they really keep you young at heart! The laughter I share with my children everyday makes me smile long after they have been tucked in for the night!

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft? Besides my creative craft I am busy chasing around two little boys and keeping them busy over the summer with swimming and vacations!

What is the address for your Etsy shop? I actually have two at the present moment,
Mimi Marie Designs: http://www.mimimarie573.etsy.com/ and

Earthy Elegance Jewelry Designs: http://www.earthy573.etsy.com/.

The earthy573 shop will be closing in the future and I will be focusing on my mimimarie573 shop.

What do you offer in your Etsy shop? My mimimarie573 shop will soon be full of treasures including my jewelry and other accessories such as classic clutch purses made from vintage, retro and upcycled fabrics!

Where do you create? I create at home in my studio which I share with my husband.

Where do you find your inspiration? My inspiration comes from colors that I see, fabric that I just fall in love with, and for my jewelry sayings that I hear or quotes that I love.

How did you get started in your line of business? I am a girly girl living in a house of boys! I find my designing is a much needed way of bringing out the feminine side of me that spends most of her day knee deep in mud, worms, fishing, and anything else that is boy related!

How do you promote your business? I promote my business A LOT online. I also do local craft shows and fundraising events. My business has spread through my friends and family and word of mouth referrals, that I am so super thankful for!

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business? Oh definitely being able to balance it with having two small children with a husband that travels for a living! I have learned that all days are not going to be work days in the studio and that is okay. Somedays will be good and some will be crazy and some days will be just darn insane! But that’s all about being a working mom right?!

What advice would you give someone just starting out? Well, I am still fairly new with my Etsy shop but I would have to say patience. Just keep plugging along and promoting and things will start to happen!

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy? Oh my goodness I have TONS!! Just check out my list on My Favorites there are so many!! Of course all my EtsyMom shops are tops of the list!!

What are your other sites (i.e. Blogger, Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter)?
and be sure to visit her Etsy shop and leave a comment letting her know how much you enjoy her work!

Marvelous Mom - Addy - Addybscakes

It’s Monday Morning!!!! And that means it’s time to get up close and personal with one of our EtsyMoms. Call us mompreneurs, work-at-home moms, domestic engineers…whatever the name…we take great care of our families and also carve out special time for our independently owned businesses. Today we will meet Adrienne, the incredibly talented owner of two Etsy shops, the especially sweet Addy B’s Cakes , to satisfy your sugar craving and Addy B’s Creations, eco-friendly apparel and accessories for you and your little ones. Come on! Let’s find out more…

My name is Adrienne Bibb, but everyone I know and love calls me Addy. I am a personal chef/cake designer. I am happily married to a wonderful guy of 13 years and have three gorgeous children that keep me very busy. Trystan is 13, my laid back, metal music lover, and Xbox junkie. Karastyn is 10, my spoiled diva that loves to craft as well. And, Jailen is 7, my boisterous, busy bodied child.

I have lived all over the place and learned a lot about people from each place. St. Paul, Minnesota, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Montgomery, Alabama, Biloxi, Mississippi, Fairbanks, Alaska, St. Louis, Missouri, Cincinnati, Ohio and now, Savannah, Georgia. Loved Alaska!

I try to be as green as possible in everything I do. I collect cookbooks. I love thrift shops and yard sales. I'm also an avid reader and movie watcher. I’m addicted to Sudoku, coffee, and bacon, but not in that particular order.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

I am also a full-time Sous Chef at a local restaurant here in Savannah.

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

I have two Etsy Shops.

Addy B’s Cakes – http://www.addybscakes.etsy.com/

Addy B’s Creations – http://www.addyb737.etsy.com/

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

Addy B’s Cakes offers gourmet, homemade pound cakes in a wide variety of flavors.

Addy B’s Creations offers a few of the things I tinker around with. I generally use recycled or repurposed fabrics for clothing, handbags, and such.

Where do you create?

My cakes are made right in my kitchen! I am certified in food safety and sanitation so no worries of it being safe or clean. All of the clothing and such are made in my office at home, right at my desk.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I love to be creative and working on lots of projects. I love to eat and I love food. After graduating from culinary school, I decided that I love being a mom more than a celebrity chef, so I decided to work more on my cakes. So, I suppose my kids are my main inspiration. They also help with taste testing new flavors!

I grew up in the South (Louisiana) and my husband is from Alabama, so Southern desserts sort of became my specialty. I love to get inventive with pound cake recipes and see what new flavors I can come up with.

How did you get started in your line of business?

I started out baking cakes as a hobby. I would bring cake in to work or do a friend’s child’s birthday cake. After getting so many referrals from word of mouth, I decided that maybe I should started getting paid for this.

How do you promote your business?

Mostly word of mouth. I also use Twitter, Facebook, and my blog.

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

Prioritize everything and keep a schedule! Otherwise, everything gets all jumbled up and customers won’t be happy with the results.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Be patient! Everything happens when it’s supposed to, not when you want it to.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

http://www.etsy.com/shop/BabyLovesPink

plus, I love urban outfitters, delias, and forever 21.

What are your other sites (i.e. Blogger, Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter)?

EtsyMom Monday - Holly Sanford - Fiorella Designs

Are you looking for a new accessory to express your own unique sense of style with an eco-friendly twist? Etsy is truly known for being a marketplace full of innovative handmade finds, many of which are created from repurposed materials. This week’s Marvelous Mom, Holly Sanford is owner and designer of Fiorella Designs (http://fiorelladesigns.etsy.com/). Let’s meet the talent behind the funky, original, upcycled cigar box purses that combine fashion and art!

Etsymom: Holly - Fiorella Designs (http://fiorelladesigns.etsy.com)

Her Art
I create one-of-a-kind purses made from cigar boxes. Every purse I design is so personal to me, and is very hard for me to part with! I focus on themes that will allow women to express themselves. My favorite purses have a wine-tasting theme, where I incorporate materials like cork, distressed papers, and wine labels.

There are many steps involved in upcycling a used cigar box into a finished purse. Finding the most unique cigar boxes is the first step. They have so much character and are already beautiful on their own. From decoupaging the papers on, to finishing with a tassel and coordinating interior, there are many hours that go into the planning and process.

The Artist
I am fortunate to be able to work from home where I am able to watch my two sons grow each day. What began as a hobby has really begun to take off for me. My background includes sewing wedding dresses, interior design, and scrapbooking. My varied interests really come together in helping me create my purses. I am so passionate about what I do. There is no greater reward than to have other women love my designs the way I do!

Here are some of my favorite picks from Holly's shop:

I love the classic elegance of this beautiful black and white “Cherish” jewelry box, accented with a burgundy rose. (http://www.etsy.com/listing/49466708/cherish-jewelry-box)

And this "Queen of Hearts" purse is just fun! (http://www.etsy.com/listing/42892015/queen-of-hearts-purse)

Welcome Spring Giveaway #7 - Paper Stork (Closed)

For those of you who loves to decorate your little one's room, this is the store that you must visit. Our giveaway today is sponsored by Jessica from Paper Stork (http://paperstork.etsy.com/)! In her store, you will find custom handmade, original and unique nursery and children's artwork. She also accepts customer order to create one of a kind party favors and supplies! If you are planning a birthday party, then hop on over to her store to see what she has to offer! Don't forget to come back here to learn more about Jessica and enter the contest!

What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?

My shop is The Paper Stork and I recently joined Etsymom. Everyone has been so welcoming and friendly, it feels like home (without the crying baby).

Tell us something about you, your family, your craft or your store?

I'm a full time Mama to two girls. I've always loved paper goods and crafting. While I was pregnant with my first kiddo, I couldn't find any nursery art that was special enough for my first baby. I created my first three nursery pieces and discovered my desire to create pieces for friends and family. I love the idea of creating a piece of art that will be part of such a special room in the home, the nursery.

Where do you get your inspirations?
I'm inspired by my children and the journeys we take together.

What is the first thing you think of when someone said “Spring”?
Sun shining, birds chirping and flowers blooming...oh, and in New England, snow melting!

Give us some ideas on how to have the most family fun during Spring?

We love to get outside with sidewalk chalk, bubbles and bikes. If it isn't too chilly, we'll grab a picnic basket and have some peanut butter and banana sandwiches outside. We keep it simple but fun.

Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?
I also feature my items on my Facebook page, Barefoot By The Sea and have a tab for My Etsy.
