My Favorite Etsy

One - aceo original mixed media

by fortheloveofcrafts

Why she loves this piece:

This is one of my favorites. I start out by painting the whole 9x12" piece of paper with a simple abstract design, then cut it into ACEO size rectangles and take each of those and see what it says to me. Sometimes it is a totally effortless process and the finished piece just happens like magic. That was the case with this one, it's always fun when that happens. I accidentally scanned it upside down, but decided that I liked it just as well that way as right side up, so I left it.

Why I love this piece:
I love the motion in this work. I can see it moving. It reminds of a waterfall. It makes me happy!

Jodi's Favorite Etsy

Handforged Bronze Ivy Pendant
by Knitsteel

Why She loves this piece:

I love this leaf style because it's so simple and still so beautiful. It captures the essence of a leaf. I also like the color, rich glow, and heft of bronze.

Why Jodi loves this piece:
I bought a similar one in steel and wear it everyday! Her
work is amazing and only wish I lived closer to her, so I
could watch her work her magic with metal.

Works for Me!

Have you girls ever heard of the Flylady? Well my mom swears by her!
She has this whole system of how to keep your house clean. She starts you off with small steps so you don't get overwhelmed but once you get the hang of the system it really works.

My favorite concept of hers is to always keep your kitchen sink sparklin'. She says that no matter how filthy the rest of your house is, if the kitchen sink sparkles you will feel better.

That is so true! I have adopted that philosophy since the day I got married, 3 short years ago and I swear it has stopped fights! Whenever it feels like he and I are about to get into it, I get up and do the dishes. It always makes me feel better. And I never leave dirty dishes in the sink at night. Dirty dishes are just not the right way to start the morning off. It only takes maybe 15 minutes to do em'. So why not?

Do you girls have any fun housekeeping tips to share? Anyone who leaves a comment on how to make housekeeping a little more fun will be entered into a drawing for a free something cute from M Original Designs. Let the good times roll!

Why she loves this piece:

These are such cute earrings. Very simple and carefree, elegant and fun. They are almost like wearing nothing being so lightweight. When the light hits them they sparkle and glimmer. And they'll go with so many things in your wardrobe, you'd be surprised. The lemon quartz is flawless and is faceted like little disco balls! They're gorgeous. I accented them with tiny little white seed pearls and Bali daisy spacers and used very simple earwires to focus attention more on the beauty of the beads. My 5 1/2 year old son really liked these. When I finished them, he said they looked like little drops of lemon ice! He's so cute!

Why I love this piece:

Etsy has a lot of options when it comes to jewelry. But these caught my eye right off. The lemon color is fun and flirty but the tiny pearls just make them so lady like. I am all about understated class and I think these are just beautiful. Very sweet, Ginger.

I love this fabric from Michael Miller. The colors are cool and crisp. The pattern is modern for us Mommies yet fun for our babies too. This bib, as well as all of our bibs, are generous in length and width to cover all of baby. Looking for something original and special at a baby shower? This would be perfect!

This fabric is wonderful. I have used it in projects of my own and it is perfect for baby's skin. I love how original and unique you would be with this set. Everyone would want to know where you got it!

Jess Is All Sweet

Etsymom Jess
allsweet.etsy.com
Dallas, GA USA

Tell us a bit about you and your family.
Where to start with that ha-ha. My husband and I have been happily married for a little over 6 years. All together we have 4 children- two together and we each have one from a previous relationship. It's almost like we're the Brady Bunch! I stay at home with my kids but plan on getting a part time job when the youngest starts school full time.

What do you do and how did you start? A little of everything in a way. I've always loved sewing but don't get as much time as I'd like for that. I got into making hair accessories and jewelry shortly after I had my youngest. I pretty much just started tinkering with the stuff. A dear friend of mine asked me if I could add onto a bracelet she had and it just took off from there. I really owe it all to her. She had posted a picture of the bracelet on a message board and shortly after I was swamped with orders.

How did you first begin to sell/market your work?
I sell mostly around town. It really all happened by accident. After testing waters around town I started doing a few small craft shows. Now, after debating other sources, I've opened an Etsy shop. Etsy really is wonderful.

How did you first hear of Etsy? I first heard about Etsy through a friend on a Yahoo message board. After checking it out and debating for a few months I finally jumped in and couldn't be happier.

What do you like about Etsy?
Everything! The people (staff and other Etsians) are so helpful and funny. I love spending time in the morning reading through the forum. I love the Street Teams too especially EtsyMom.

What kind of work environment do you have?

Relaxed. I make my creations at my home when I get time to.

What is your favorite product right now?
I'm going to have to go with my Beach Babe bracelet. I spent many days on the beach and miss it so much.

What is your definition of success?
I guess my definition of success would be happiness. If you are truely happy with your life then you are already successful. I know that sounds corny but thats how I feel.

Who or what are your inspirations?
Life in general is my inspiration. A rain drop dripping off a rose, a bird splashing around in the bird bath, my children running around outside, a field of corn....just everything. There is always so much going around us that I think we all too often fail to really see. To see it and then to really see it are two completely different things.

How do you deal with creative blocks?
I put it all down and walk away. I tend to feel that if I'm getting a block it's because I'm trying too hard or have been spending too much time with it. Sometimes the best way to get over a creative block is to just step away and go for a drive or a walk or just sit outside on the porch and enjoy some coffee.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Honestly, I have no idea. I just take it day by day. I may wake up one morning and decide it really doesn't fit in with my life anymore...or on the other hand I may decide I want to do this until I'm no longer able. You just never know what life may throw at you.

What is your favorite thing to shop for on Etsy?

Nothing in particular. I love to just browse and see what I find. I recently purchased the most adorable peapod magnet from PolpetteClay. I didn't set out to buy a peapod magnet, I was just browsing and saw it. It was so funny because they had faces. I knew I needed to add that to my fridge. Every time I see it, it makes me smile. I love things like that - things that make you smile and laugh.

Thanks Jess!

Punk Princess Dress
by Rockerchic

Why she loves this dress:

It is well off the beaten path. It's a very simple design that doesn't take away from your child's face or hair. And it has a very rock'n'roll or medieval feel to it. Plain and simple, I just like it because it's different!! You'll not see one hanging on the rack in some old stuffy dept. store.

Why I love this dress:

I abhor "traditional" baby gear. You will never see my little girl in Pooh (I have a serious hatred of Pooh... yes even classic Pooh). This dress is so anti-Pooh. This little girl looks like a rocker! I love it!

Bag in Hand

by
Purpledaisies

Why she loves this piece:

The reason I love this bag so much is simply the fabric. I love the orange, greens and browns on the exterior of the bag. It's great for summer and will go right into the fall, as well. The interior orange fabric is a beautiful color and is more unexpected. Because pink and green are used so often, I chose orange to make it stand out from the crowd.

Why I love this piece:

Ohh... the fabric! I just love
Heather Bailey. If you've never seen her blog, it is a must! If I saw someone carrying this bag I would rush to ask them where they got it. Super cute, Lindsey!

Cherry Blossom Painting Pendant - on Polymer Clay with Beads
by artisticcreations

Why she loves this piece:
The cherry blossoms are the first trees to bloom near our home after the long winter. I love their graceful branches and the beautiful blossoms of white, pink, and red. I tried to capture this trees' elegant beauty in this little pendant painting.

Why I love this piece:
I love all things girly! This piece just struck me as so feminine. It's simplistic yet sophisticated. I just love it. Well done, Andrea!
