Marvelous Mom - Brooke - BabybyBrooke

It's Monday and you all know what that means here on the EtsyMom blog! Time to meet this week's Marvelous Mom. As many of us mommies know, it can be a little challenging to find just the right accessories for the little men in our lives...so if you are looking for one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items for your tyke, you will adore BabybyBrooke! This shop also has fun items like hair clips that would make super sweet stocking stuffers. Read on to find out more about the owner, Brooke, and her big dreams!

Tell us yourself!

I'm a 30 year old stay at home mom of two wild and crazy kiddos (2 and 4 – boy and girl) that make sure I never have a dull moment! I’ve been married for almost 9 ½ years to my best friend that I also claim as my third child (he’s a 5 year old at heart).

We live in beautiful, sunny Orange County California. I love all things artistic, creative, retro and unique and would love to one day make fun, modern yet modest wedding dresses (one day …… sigh).

What makes you unique as a woman?

I’m a bit OCD when it comes to cleaning or having things in their place (you never would guess that if you came over right now though! Ha ha!)

What do you love about Kids?

The crazy things t hat they say and all the energy they have! Who needs a tv when you have a toddler to entertain you?! I also admire how quick they are to forgive and how quick they can make new friends. My favorite thing about my kids though is their laugh and smile.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

I’m an interior designer by trade and own an older home that’s in need of some major TLC – so I feel like I’m always doing something to “improve” my house. I recently painted our family room and hall closet and now am onto refurbishing furniture.

What is the address for your Etsy shop?

http://www.etsy.com/shop/BabyByBrooke

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

Currently – hair accessories, pacifier clips, little man ties, super hero capes and masks and toddler felt watches with more to come (like little man bow ties and button covered earrings)

Where do you create?

Mostly in my kitchen / dining room but once the kids are in bed I’ll venture out into the family room where the tv is.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Mostly from my kids and the things that they’re interested in along with my surroundings.

How did you get started in your line of business?

After I stopped working and became a full time mom, I was craving a creative outlet. Since I had my daughter my mind was geared towards her and babies. I started making pacifier clips and baby blankets then got introduced to bow making from some friends and it’s snowballed from there. I always wanted to have an etsy shop – or some way to be able to get my stuff out there but never did anything about it, life was always too crazy. So for Christmas last year my husband surprised me and set up my shop, picked the name and got it going for me so I no longer had an excuses.

How do you promote your business?

Still working on that!I recently just did my first giveaway and can’t wait to do more. I don’t have the time to devote to my shop like I’d like too (I have so much more then what is one my shop!) so I make up for it by doing boutiques. I’ve done 5 this year and have 2 more lined up before Christmas.

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

Not to over commit myself or have unrealistic expectations – but to enjoy the ride!

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Don’t stress about things and enjoy what you do.

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

EtsyMom Curator Award
We are so excited to introduce the EtsyMom Curator Award - an award that will honor the dedication of one EtsyMom each month! The recipient will be the EtsyMom who helps to promote the team as a whole by curating the most EtsyMom team treasuries in a one month period! We will also be acknowledging each and every team treasury as well as the EtsyMom who curates it here, on the EtsyMom blog!

If you have not made a treasury before, and need help creating your first treasury, please let us know. We will be happy to help.

The big holiday shopping season is here, and we want to promote EtsyMom as a team to get our name out there and encourage others to buy handmade products from hard working, talented and dedicated moms. We think that a great way to start off is by encouraging all EtsyMoms to curate EtsyMom team treasuries. We have quite a few members - what a huge impact it would have on promoting EtsyMom! Many people check the treasuries often, and I know that some shop directly from them.

This is how the EMCA will work:
  • Each EtsyMom who curates an EtsyMom TEAM treasury will submit a link to their treasury link here in this thread: EMCA - EtsyMom Curator Award
  • Every single team treasury will get a screenshot (picture) posted to the EtsyMom Curator Award Blog as well as a thank you with a link directly to the curator’s shop.
  • The EtsyMom who curates the most treasuries in a one month period will be the recipient of the EMCA, which is comprised of three parts: the winner’s shop’s EtsyMini will be posted on our team blog for one month as a thank you for helping to support the team, there will be a Marvelous Mom feature of them and they will also get to choose a prize from one of that month’s sponsors.

The rules:
  • The sponsors for the month CANNOT be winners for that month
  • The same person cannot win two awards in a row.
  • In order for your treasury to count, you must use only EtsyMom items, and mention "EtsyMom" either in your treasury title or description so it’s easily identified as an EtsyMom treasury.

The recipient of the award will be announced each month in the EtsyMom newsletter, and a special mention will go out to each EtsyMom who manages to curate at least 4 treasuries in that one month period. Between now and the holidays, selections will be made from weekly treasuries for inclusion in the holiday gift guides.

The EMCA challenge will be active from the 15th until the 14th of the following month. This means that the first challenge starts NOW! The first recipient of the EMCA will be announced on November 14, and their EtsyMini will be posted on the EtsyMom blog from November 15 – December 14.

Each month, we will have 3 new sponsors for the EMCA recipient of the month to choose from. You can also sign up to be a sponsor in the forum. An EtsyMom will be in charge of this list, and she will be choosing 3 different sponsors each month. The first “winner” will get to choose one prize from ONE of these participating shops.

NW Wonders
Butterfly Gem
Lil’ Princess Bowtique

You can post in this thread to share ideas, as well as tips and tricks you’ve learned about treasuries. Let’s all share the love, and help click and comment on all EtsyMom treasuries when you see them to help get the team more visibility!

Good luck and happy treasury hunting!

How to create a Facebook Business Page
Everyone knows the benefits advertising has for your business. Selling on Etsy is a very "word-of-mouth" kind of business and what better way is there than reaching across the globe using Facebook? Creating a Business Page for your shop is easy and can be used to promote new items, meet new friends, and post updates about your shop!

To get started, log into your personal Facebook account. You do need a personal one to post to your Business Page. Once you are logged in, go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php.

Here you are given two options: a Community Page and an Official Page. You are wanting to create an Official Page. Online Store falls under Brand, Product or Organization so you'll want to select that option and change the drop-down menu to Online Store. Fill in your Etsy shop's name in the "Page Name" field and check the box stating you are the official representative for the company. Then press "Create Official Page".

Ta-Da! Your page has been created! You will now want to go through and edit the profile information, add a profile photo, even add photos of your items. From here, you can add custom tabs along the top (such as the My Etsy tab).

If you ever need to get to your page, you can click "Account" in the upper right-hand corner of Facebook and click "Manage Pages". Once you have 25 people who "like" your page, you can create a custom URL by going to http://www.facebook.com/username/. Remember - once you create a custom URL, it cannot be changed!

Would you like to submit a Tutorial for November's newsletter? Send an email to Missie by November 1st with the topic you'd like to write about.

Special Promotions
Halloween sale on all Halloween items. All Halloween items will be 20% off. Visit www.peaceloveandkids.etsy.com

That's it for this month's team newsletter. If you have any questions or suggestions for a future newsletter, please send an email to Missie. Thanks and have a great month!

Marvelous Mom - Kathleen - Love You More Jewelry Designs

It's Marvelous Mom Monday on the blog! Grab a cuppa joe and spend a few minutes getting to know Kathleen, the talent behind Love You More Designs. Her beautiful jewelry, created from upcycled vintage treasures, will surely warm the heart of someone on your Christmas gift list!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m a wife and mother of three who loves to create jewelry, scrapbook and dabble in home décor . I love to write and I especially love to blog!

What makes you unique as a woma
n?

I guess I’m unique in that I used to be a lawyer (gasp!) but I’m so far removed from that life now, and loving the ability to just be creative and not stress about the small stuff.

What do you love about kids?

I love that kids love unconditionally. I love that kids say the cutest and sometimes most outrageous things! I love that we can learn from our children every day. I love that kids are absolute sponges when it comes to learning new things.

What are you currently doing besides your creative craft?

HA! What else am I currently doing? I’m raising three kids, ages 11, 9 and 6. I make jewelry, scrapbook, teach Sunday School and blog like crazy whenever I can. Notice that house cleaning did not even make the list! Please don’t tell. What is the address for your Etsy Shop?

http://loveyoumoredesigns.etsy.com

What do you offer in your Etsy shop?

I offer unique vintage, repurposed shabby chic jewelry including charm bracelets, necklaces and earrings. I started out with a passion for charm bracelets but I was really surprised to find out how much I enjoy making charm necklaces as well.

Wh
ere do you create?

I create jewelry in my home craft room/studio.

Where do you find your
inspiration?

I find inspiration from some of my favorite jewelry design
ers as well as whatever vintage stuff I can get my hands on to repurpose. I love looking at an old piece of jewelry and asking myself, “Now what else can I make out of this?” Flea markets and barn sales rock!

How did you get started in your line of business?

I got started because of my daughters, really. They wanted me to help them create some simple jewelry pieces to sell one summer at the beach and I started from there and just kept going!

How do you promote your business?

I really don’t promote my shop like I know I should. My blog is one place where my shop gets some exposure. I also belong to a few social networks of artisans where I can promote my stuff. Etsy Teams are also a good way to put yourself out there.

Cha Cha Cha Charm Bracelet, $28.50

Halloween Charm Bracelet, $22.50

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned since starting this business is that sales are icing on the cake, at least for me. I’m blessed in that I don’t have to do this to make a living so I can revel a bit more in the process of creating and enjoy blogging to its fullest without feeling the stress of having to sell. (But don’t get me wrong ~ I still do a real happy dance whenever one of my pieces sells! It’s great to know that others love your work, too.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

My advice to someone just starting out would be to believe in yourself, really put yourself and your creations out there. Start a blog and you’ll be amazed to find how many new friends you’ll make!

What are some of your favorite online shops on and off Etsy?

On Etsy: two I really like are http://Silvivia.etsy.com (romantic, embellished fashions) and http://LesPetitsTresors.etsy.com (burlap and feedsack pillows). For jewelry supplies I love to shop at http://Ornamentea.com

What are your other sites?

My blog is at http://charmbraceletdiva.blogspot.com

Be sure to stop by Kathleen's Etsy shop and leave a comment here telling her which item is your favorite!
