Marvelous Mom Weekly - Anastasia - L'Accent Nou

This week I am taking you all on a field trip---all the way to Spain! We will visit a very beautiful design studio. We will meet a very special Etsymom – Anastasia from L’Accent Nou (http://laccentnou.etsy.com) and find out more about her one of a kind jewelry.

Come on, let’s hop on our private “jet” and start our journey!

Etsymom: Anastasia – L’Accent Nou (http://laccentnou.etsy.com/)

Dew in the grass - mother's day one of a kind pendant (http://www.etsy.com/listing/44735160/dew-in-the-grass-mothers-day-one-of-a)

You shop name is very unique, what language is that and does it have any special meeting?

My shop name is L'Accent Nou, it means New Accent in Catalan language - native language of Majorcan people, Balearic Islands, Spain where I live.

Tell us more about your store items and why you love making them?

In my store you can find one of a kind jewelry made mostly from cold porcelain clay (a kind of airdry polymer clay, rather sturdy material). I'm in constant search and experiment with unusual materials. I combine clay with copper wire, I like to include natural materials like seeds, branches, leaves, sand...Often my inspiration comes from the Nature.

I love plastic arts in general. And clay was my passion from very young age.

I remember when I was little girl I asked my parents to bring clay home, I had like an impulse to do something with clay....and now I think this impulse just came out.

Making pieces from clay is what I enjoy most. It is the moment to play and have fun. Creative moments are my favorite!

Your studio is so beautiful! Can you tell us more about it and how it helps you create?

We live out of town, in rural zone. I love this place, here I stay in touch with nature all the time. When I go for a walk, I find leaves, seeds and branches which I use in my work.

My studio is a quiet place with big window and a big tree outside. Here I can be alone and concentrate and focus on my materials and designs.

In the future I'd like to have a small kiln to fire porcelain and clay and to experiment with ceramic glazes.

Tell us more on these special boxes where you store your creations?

When I began to advertise my shop locally people wanted to see my work and I understood I need to create some showcase that I can take with me everywhere. I bought a round wooden box for Ohh..! Collection. I painted it in white color and I made a pink cushion. And I put Blue Line Collection and Colorful Collections in two wooden boxes with window. I think they are great inventions. By this way, my jewelries are protected from the dust and always ready to be shown.

Customers see beautiful photos on my web page and in my Etsy shop, and I think it's important to try to give the same perception in real life. I cannot bring my work in a plastic bag or something like that, I want to give a nice presentation so that the customer will decide to buy it. Finally, packaging is very important as well. People like to see that you care about your product. All items in my store come in a gift box. I paint and scrapbook all the gift boxes. I have a lot of fun making tags! I love to invent packaging for my jewelries. It is where I can be creative as well.

Can you share with us your creative process, where you get your inspiration, how do you decide which material to use, etc.

My favourite materials are clay, cold porcelain (a kind of airdry polymer clay), sterling silver, copper, and unusual materials like sand, seeds, and leaves. My designs are inspired mostly in the Nature and my work is always directly influenced by my personal experiences and immediate environment. Elements like sand, stones, shells, seeds, herbs and leafs are used for impressions and incrustations. I'm in constant experiment with materials and I try to use ecological materials and to be eco-friendly with my actions in general.

I don't make mass production, I make small collections and all the procedures are totally handcrafted. My favourite moment is modeling, when my fingers are in work, when I give form to future jewels, I love this moments - when my pieces are born. It is very exciting. Than, painting is a magical moment as well. I never know how exactly the painting will finish. I have a lot of fun giving colors to my creations. It is when I begin to see my jewels finished.

Finally, I decide what metal I'll use - copper or sterling silver.

Normally I don't do copies, I like to do something different everytime, something new. Customers buy the item they see on the picture.

***

This concludes our special field trip! I hope you had a good time! Before you go, I have to tell you how you can continue to connect with Anastasia. Best place to start is through her blog which has updates from her shop, life and everything else she wants to share with her fans! I absolutely love the beautiful pictures she posts on her blog.

Mother's Day Giveaway - Holly Berry Hill

Candles are very magical! They can light up a room. They are great decorative items. They can even change the mood of a room! The Etsymom who is sponsoring today's giveaway, Noelle from Holly Berry Hill (http://hollyberryhill.etsy.com/) have some amazing candles in her shop! She uses 100% soy wax and all natural cotton wicks in all her candles and have 12 different scents for you to choose from. You can customize the candle to fit the overall feel of your room with the perfect scent! Candles are great mother's day gift so you will love her prize! I also love the story of her mom that she shared with us below, so read on...

Tell us more about your etsy shop, your items or inspirations?

♥ The main part of my shop is my soy candles. I've been a candle addict forever...there is always one burning or a tart melting somewhere in my home. I live in New England home of the big box "Y" brand so for a long time that is what I burned because I just didn't know any better. After reading an article about soy I had to try it...and I've been hooked ever since. No more sooty walls and ceilings, it really is wonderful! I started making and selling my own about 6 years ago, the neighborhood calls us the best smelling house on the block.

Can you share a little about your mother or being a mother yourself?

♥ My mother is my true inspiration. She is a very talented seamstress, making clothes for us a kids an making the most gorgeous curtains that you can imagine. She has always been creative and as a child she encouraged every creative inclination I ever had. We would sew together, paint together, knitting you name it. Any new craft that came out we would try our hands at it. Now with a daughter of my own I get to nurture that same creative flame and experience the same joy my mother had doing it with me...its a great feeling.

Do you have a memorable mother’s day moment?

♥ With four kids, every Mother's Day is full of memorable moments. What I look forward to the most is getting the gifts that they have made for me in school. I have everything from framed hand prints to stepping stones to pencil holders shaped like fish and I cherish each and every one.

What are you planning to do on Mother’s Day?

♥ Our everyday lives are hectic so we try to keep holidays as laid back and relaxed as possible. My husband will make breakfast for everyone and we'll all pile into our bed in our jammies to eat. In the afternoon my daughter and I (I have 3 sons and 1 spoiled princess daughter) will go have mani/pedis. I love pedicures! If you have never had one...you have to try it!

What’s the biggest challenge you face being a Mom and an Etsy seller?

♥ TIME! I work fulltime on top of being a mom and running a business so time is a hot comodity around my house. I've learned over time how to be the ultimate multi tasker.

Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?

♥ In addition to my Etsy shop I have a Twitter account Http://twitter.com/hollyberryhill and a Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Suffield-CT/Holly-Berry-Hill/105552406152868?ref=ts) (neither of which I have done too much with yet) and I also have a website www.hollyberryhillonline.com that is just about up and running. I started teaching myself html coding about 4 years ago and I've done most of the coding myself on the website ☺

Prize: ♥ One 4oz Candle Tin and two 15 Hour Votives in Strawberry Shortcake

Mother's Day Giveaway #4 - Hot Lava Clothing (Closed)

I am very excited for this giveaway because it is sponsored by one of my favorite Etsy shops! Tammy from Hot Lava Clothing (http://hotlavaclothing.etsy.com/) creates the cutest boys and girls outfits. And because I own a couple of her pieces I can honestly say that they are very well constructed and even cuter in real life than pictured! Just in time for Mother's Day she has added a few beautiful pieces for adults too! You can bring summer to your home anytime of the year with  Hot Lava Clothing (http://hotlavaclothing.etsy.com/), because it's summer all year in Hawaii!

Ok, enough about what I want to say, let's see what Tammy has to share with us:

Tell us more about your etsy shop, your items or inspirations?

Inspiration for Hot Lava Clothing comes from my own kids, living in Hawaii, and wanting to offer high quality handmade clothing at reasonable prices. I am hoping to gradually expand my shop to offer a little bit of something for everyone.

Can you share a little about your mother or being a mother yourself?

I am a mom of 3 boys and 2 girls- ages 2-15 and really enjoy creating things for and with my kids.

Do you have a memorable mother’s day moment?

Each Mother’s Day is different and memorable in its own way but for me the best ones are when the kids & my husband go to the effort of making breakfast. I prefer having a nice relaxed breakfast/brunch at home vs. going out to eat, even if I have to do the dishes.

What are you planning to do on Mother’s Day?

We haven’t made any plans yet--I’m looking forward to just a nice relaxing day with my family. Aside from that, I am hoping to have a small line available for Women soon!

What’s the biggest challenge you face being a Mom and an Etsy seller?

For right now, the biggest challenge is finding the right balance for “work” and family.

Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?

Yes

Marvelous Mom Weekly - Maite - Tamsy Trends

This week's featured Etsymom is Maite from Tamsy Trends, your one-stop shop for uniquely handcrafted jewelry, accessories and décor. If you ever wonder what happens when you mix science with art, then Maite can certainly share it with you. Reading her profile on Etsy I found out that she is a technology consultant and a self-taught jewelry artist. The end results are beautiful jewelry and accessories. I am always impressed with the talents of our Etsymom! Let's get to know more about Maite below:

Estymom: Maite - Tamsy Trends (http://www.tamsytrends.etsy.com/)

A little background:

My name is Maite and I am a stay-at-home mom to two daughters – Idoia who is now 10 yrs old and Andion who is 8. My Etsy shop is Tamsy Trends http://www.TamsyTrends.etsy.com I make handcrafted jewelry and beaded accessories for men and women, including bridal pieces, hairpins, keychains, purse charms, beaded napkin rings, bookmarks and rosaries.

How I started:

I have been crafting since I was very young. In my family, I was always known for giving my own handmade items as birthday gifts. I remember sewing clothes for my dolls and as I grew older, I also started sewing my own clothes. My journey with jewelry making started a few years ago when my kids started elementary school and I found myself finally having a little extra time on my hands. I already knew how to sew so I started sewing stuff for my house – curtains, table cloths and napkins etc. Then, on a trip to a craft store, I picked up a jewelry making book and starter kit and decided to try to learn how to make necklaces and bracelets. My thinking then was I would make a couple of pieces for myself and my kids and if my end products were good enough, I would give a couple to my relatives as Christmas gifts. Well, needless to say, I got completely hooked and I did not stop making jewelry since then.

What inspired me:

I would say that when I do my craft, I draw a lot of inspiration from the colors I see everyday, whether it be from a nice painting I saw or a certain window display, from the colors of buildings on the street or my kids’ drawings. When I create jewelry, I always try to make simple but elegant pieces. I go for versatility, rather than just following the latest trends and my goal is to create classic pieces that do not quickly go out of style.

Marvelous Mom Weekly - Emily - DYEnamite

Do you like pearls? Do you like ribbons? Have you ever thought that combining the two of these you can create very beautiful items? Well, Emily from DYEnamite (http://dyenamite.etsy.com/) certainly has! With her two favorite materials, she has created all kinds of jewelries and bookmarks. Let’s meet this week’s Mavelous Mom...

Estymom: Emily  - DyEnamite (http://DYEnamite.etsy.com)

The Family:

I live in South Carolina. I am happily married with one son. He is entering college this fall and will be living at home. So he may be graduating but I will still be doing his laundry!

The Creative Process:

I dye high quality glass pearls from a supplier in New York City. I can dye them in any shade. I often string the dyed pearls onto different colors of ribbon. I will also string them with pottery beads, ceramic beads, wooden beads, natural shells, etc. I have a line of school items where I combine the school's colors ( one for the pearls, one for the ribbon ) then add glass basketball and football beads and pendants. I also make school earrings, bracelets and bookmarks. I do custom orders for any school's colors whether it is an elementary, middle, high school or college. My bookmarks make great gifts for students. Also graduation is just around the corner!

The Passion:

Jewelry has always been a passion of mine. I have always loved pearls, even as a little girl. I can remember receiving my first jewelry set as a little girl and of course it was pearls! And I have always loved the look and feel of ribbon. So I guess it only makes sense that I found a way to work with them both.

Other Interests:

My other interests are music, reading, cooking, traveling, jogging, weight bearing exercise and walking on the beach.

My Links:

I have two shops – Etsy - http://www.DYEnamite.etsy.com and Artfire - http://www.artfire.com/users/DYEnamite Pearls

I also have a facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/DYEnamite-Pearls/10150103356095231?ref=ts

SPECIAL SALE:

I have a wonderful sale going on in my Etsy shop!
To celebrate COLLEGE GRADUATION SEASON all my COLLEGE ITEMS are 25% OFF!! ~Includes CUSTOM ORDERS!!~
~**SPRING SALE**~ EVERYTHING IS 25% OFF!!

Mother's Day Giveaway #2 - Mama's Magic Studio (Closed)

All mommies are magicians, they can always make us feel better in some magical way. Our featured magician mama today is Jen from Mama's Magic Studio (http://mamasmagicstudio.etsy.com/).  She creates magic with her hands and transform raw materials into beautiful handmade items in her shop! So lets get to know this special etsymom a little more:

Tell us more about your etsy shop, your items or inspirations?

At Mama’s Magic Studio (http://mamasmagicstudio.etsy.com/), I am inspired by the magic that happens in the process of making something by hand. I especially enjoy working with wire and beads, and last year I began working with wood to make handmade knitting needles. My customized bird’s nest pendant designs, which can symbolize family in many ways, were inspired by my own children and my wish to have family jewelry that was understated, beautiful, and durable. My knitting earrings and yarn ball pendants were inspired by my love of knitting. (Though I’m not a good enough knitter yet to offer knit items in my shop!)

Can you share a little about your mother or being a mother yourself?

I have two great kids – a five year old boy and a three year old girl. I have the great good fortune to be able to be at home with them every day. It requires sacrifice, but it’s absolutely worth it. Motherhood is both more challenging and more joyful than I’d ever imagined it would be. It’s the hardest, happiest job I’ve ever had.

Do you have a memorable mother’s day moment?

We don’t really make a big deal about Mother’s Day in our household, but I cherish the everyday moments that are always a part of Mother’s Day -- and many other days at our house! -- handmade cards with crayon scribbles, wildflower bouquets, and lots of hugs.

What are you planning to do on Mother’s Day?

Since my first Mother’s Day in 2005, I’ve marked the day by having a picture taken of me with my family. In previous years, this has been an informal picture in the back yard. This year, I’ve asked my hubby to schedule a session with a “real” photographer. It’s been a while since we had some nice family pictures, so I’m looking forward to that.

What’s the biggest challenge you face being a Mom and an Etsy seller?

Time. Never enough!

Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?

Twitter (though I rarely tweet these days) http://twitter.com/mamasmagic

What's your giveaway item?

A custom made bird’s nest pendant with one freshwater pearl “egg” – winner’s choice of egg color in blue, pink, or white. Nest can be made in silver or copper color. If winner is interested in a design with more than just one pearl, I would be happy to do that for an additional charge – additional eggs are $4 each, and I can create a design using up to 6 “egg” pearls.

Mother's Day Giveaway #1 - Earthy Elegance (Closed)

Do you know that Mother's day is less than 4 weeks away? This year's mother's day is Sunday, May 9th. I am so excited that we are starting a series of giveaways with mothers in mind! This is a holiday that is truly meaning for all of us Etsymoms! Keep following this blog for some exciting prizes!

The debut of our Mother's day giveaway is sponsored by Barbara from Earthy Elegance (http://www.earthy573.etsy.com/). You will find beautiful hand stamped jewelries in her shop and she will be happy to work with you on custom order also! Her inspirations come from our mother earth and that's why her designs are very earthy with an organic flair! Below is what Barbara wants to share with us about her store and about being a mother!

Tell us more about your etsy shop, your items or inspirations?

My etsy shop is very special to me! It is a huge step for me to put my jewelry out there for the public. I feel like when it opened I gave birth to my third child! I love to create and design all my own pieces. I would describe my jewelry as simple but elegant because of the shiny sterling silver. I would also say it tends to have an earthy organic flair to it by my stamping not being “perfect” and all the handmade ear wires for my earrings. My inspiration comes from actually every day life and the innocence of my children which comes through in my stamp sayings and the simplicity of my earring designs. I also love the colors of the earth around me which shows through in the colors that I choose in my creations.

Can you share a little about your mother or being a mother yourself?

Being a mom, like other moms, has absolutely changed my life! Looking at my two boys makes me feel like a kid again myself. I find myself seeing life through their eyes and not sweating the small stuff so much. They have taught me how to “just breathe” and to “relax”. I have learned to live in the moment again because those moments go by so fast!
Do you have a memorable mother’s day moment?

My most memorable mother’s day moment would be my first mother’s day. I waited a very long time to have my boys. I had my boys later in my life so when I finally got to celebrate my first mother’s day it was a huge day for me!

What are you planning to do on Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day is always spent with my family! I come from a family of all girls so we all get together and celebrate with our mother and children.

What’s the biggest challenge you face being a Mom and an Etsy seller?

My biggest challenge as a mom and an etsy seller as with most is time. I have been able to get into a good balance but some days it just doesn’t happen! That is when I just go with it and being a mom is always my priority.

Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?

I have just recently started a blog http://www.eejewelrydesign.blogspot.com/ and twitter http://www.twitter.earthyelegance.com/ and you can also follow my Facebook page by searching Earthy Elegance.

What's your giveaway item?

My giveaway item is a butterfly pendant that can be personalized with up to six letters. It is a sterling silver butterfly on a sterling silver bead ball chain. The winner chooses either 16” or 18” length. The picture does not show it with a crystal but I am also offering a choice of Swarovski crystal with the pendant. The picture of what the crystals look like is also attached and the list of them are on the main page of my shop.
