Marvelous Mom Weekly - ByNichole
This week's feature mom is Nichole from ByNichole (http://www.bynichole.etsy.com/). An etsy shop full of love! Nichole will be sharing her story with us on how she started with Etsy and why is this store so special to her. Her story touches me and I hope it touches you too!
Etsymom: Nichole, ByNichole (http://www.bynichole.etsy.com/)
All my life I have been a crafter; from the time I could use safety scissors and elmer’s glue I explored every medium you can possibly pick up at Joann’s and Michaels craft stores.
When my daughter was born and diagnosed with a chromosomal abnormality I immediately thought about her future. Will she ever become a self sufficient adult, will she be able to get a job? We don’t know what Angel’s future holds, but I decided that I want to own my own business by the time she is an adult, so that she will always have a place in the family trade. She is only nearing her 6th birthday, but before you know it she will be in high school and I will be ready.
It was natural for me to start crafting and selling online. I got my start with tutus. Angel is so tiny that I could never find any dance clothes to fit her for class. I ended up making tutus for the whole class and my friends daughters, so I thought I would try it out on EBay. It didn’t become an income, but a hobby I did on the side.
Last October I became an American who was laid off from a corporate job. It was my job to hire drivers for Swift Transportation, and they stopped hiring drivers, so they didn’t need me anymore. And so I was at home worrying about what would happen next. Just before Thanksgiving Angel had three seizures in one day. It was at the point that I realized it was God had a plan for me and losing my job allowed me to be home when she had the seizure, instead of at daycare. At that point I got serious about looking for a way to stay at home. I closed up my EBay store and jumped into Etsy with a lot of faith and prayer.
It took 3 weeks to get my first sale, but on February 1st my cousin bought 4 things from me. With a boost of confidence I started stocking my shop more and more. The Lord has been good to me, I have reached 20 sales in the month of February!
Everything in my shop is based on kids: my kids, my friends kids and all those parents out there. I have been focusing on three categories right now, but I have a lot up my sleeves!
My tutus are all hand cut and tied to carefully picked ribbon.

My toddler bathrobes are on my mind a lot. I match fabulous flannel prints with bath towels. The hooded robes are completely lined with actual bath towels, making a warm and cozy transition from tub to pjs.

Stuffed animals have been a new avenue for me, but I am loving creating huggable creatures. There are many more animals to come, but I can only sew so fast!

I’m still a newbie, but watch out Etsy: Nichole is on the scene!

Congratulations! Winner has been notified and will have 48 hours to respond.
Here are more information on Mimi's babies.
Our store name is MiMi’s Babies and we have been members of Etsymom for a few months.
Tell us something about you, your family, your craft or your store?
Our store is a family shop run by my mother in law and myself. She is the fantastic seamstress behind our sewn and monogrammed items. Knitting and crocheting are my specialties. We enjoy creating and love to complete custom orders.
Where do you get your inspirations?
Our inspirations come from everything around us. Sometimes fabric or yarn might speak to us. Sometimes a friend might request a new item. Or a baby shower inspires us to make a new gift.
What is the first thing you think of when someone said “Spring”?
Bright and cheery.
During Spring, we look forward to my two younger son’s birthdays and Easter. Easter is such a special time for our family.

Welcome Spring Giveaway #4 - Acacia's Gallery (Closed)
I am so pleased to be featuring Krishala, a talented artist behind Acacia's Gallery (http://acaciasgallery.etsy.com/); Acacia Studio (http://acaciastudio.etsy.com/), Krishsw19 (http://krishsw19.etsy.com/) and Krishala Fashion (http://www.krishala.com/). Here is what you will find at each store:
Acacia's Gallery - Stunning modern artwork
Krishsw19 - More beautiful moden artwork
Acacia Studio - Beautiful photography and prints
Krishala - Fashion items
What I admire the most about Krishala's work is her ability to portrait the beauty of our every day life, people, places and moments. You can clearly see her points of view through her original artwork and photographs. Her ability to bring to life the most common things we see every day is just beyond my imaginations! I especially love her Graffiti series in her Acacia Studio. I never knew Graffiti could be this beautiful!
Since a picture paints a thousand words I will be quiet now and let you enjoy her breath-taking arts! Please make sure you visit all of her stores!
This is what Krishala said about herself and her stores:

Acaciasgallery. My son was born in November 2008 and I started on Etsy the following May.
Tell us something about you, your family, your craft or your store?
Where do you get your inspirations?
I read magazines and look at paintings in art books. Sometime i'll take a walk around town and captures the moments and soak up all the eye candy. That it's coming and I can't wait! Spring is my favourite season. So much promise.
Give us some ideas on how to have the most family fun during Spring?
My son is only 14 months but by spring he will be walking everywhere, so I cant wait to take strolls in the park with him. (Yes, I know how slow babies walk at first!) I say just enjoy the fresh weather at your local park, bring a picnic if it's a really nice day, and don't forget the camera!I do have another store for more paintings - its: www.krishsw19.etsy.com
I also have a website for my fashion items - www.krishala.com (click on shop)
The lucky winner of this giveaway will get to pick any of her prints from AcaciaStudio as the prize!

Welcome Spring Giveaway #3 - Ruby's Slippers
Happy Friday! Today's giveaway is sponsored by Amanda from Ruby's Slippers (http://rubysslippers.etsy.com/). If you are shopping for really cute and unique baby shoes, then you must visit this shop! She has the cutest baby shoes ever! My favorite is the Orange Flower and the Purple Flower baby shoes. In addition to the soft baby shoes, she also has organic reversible baby bandanas. You get two bandanas with just one purchase! And, the prints are so pretty too (see pic below)! I'm sure these will be great with many different outfits. That's not all she has to offer! She also has quilts, blankets and pajamas!
Ok, let's see what Amanda has to say to our giveaway questions:
What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?
I am lucky to have a loving and supportive husband, who is a great father to our daughter Ruby. He is currently in working on getting his Masters degree in sculpture at IU, and I am lucky to be able to be home with our daughter; madly sewing while she sleeps!
Where do you get your inspirations?
I get my inspiration from my experiences as a mom and from input from friends and family. I strive to make high-quality, comfortable products that are very functional.
What is the first thing you think of when someone said “Spring”?
I think of new grass and flowers, of fresh air and being outside to enjoy it!
Give us some ideas on how to have the most family fun during Spring?
My favorite activities in the Spring are outdoors. It’s so exciting to get to be outside again, that I rarely think of anything else. I like to take picnics to the park, get the bikes out of the garage, and this year I think it would be fun to fly kites with Ruby for the first time!
This is also a great time of the year to start a planter garden. Ruby loves to get her hands dirty, so I’m sure she would love digging holes to plant flowers, vegetables, and herbs. And what is greater for a child than to watch something they planted grow and produce?
Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?
I do have a blog, although I am new to blogging and I must apologize in advance for my short and spotty posts! But I do provide a list of great blogs and sites.
My blog: www.five-min-peace.blogspot.com
Facebook: http://bit.ly/ahb2F0
The winner of this giveaway will get the Orange flower Soft Baby Shoes, Size 6-12 Months (One of my favs)
Here is how to enter:
Mandatory Entry - Visit Ruby's Slippers and select one favorite item from the store, leave a comment with your email address (so I can contact you if you win).

My store is Ruby’s Slippers. I am a new Etsymom (just joined in January), and I’m really excited to connect with other crafty mommies!

Welcome Spring Giveaway #2 - Coaster Creations (Closed)
Our last giveaway featured beautifully handpainted wine glasses and this giveaway is all about coasters! Our feature etsymom is Michelle, the designer/creator/owner of Coaster Creations. Not only does she has beautiful art on her coasters, she also has offer monogram coaster that can be customized too! Below, Michelle will let us know more about where she gets her inspiration and more!
What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?
My store name is Coaster Creations (http://coastercreator.etsy.com/) and I have been an Etsymom for less than a month. One of the best decisions I made for my business…..
Tell us something about you, your family, your craft or your store?
I never thought I would end up doing anything creative or artsy. I am a CPA and software consultant by trade and veered into “creative land” when my youngest started full day school. What started as a hobby turned into a viable business that I am having so much fun growing. Ironically, I have my MBA in Entrepreneurship and always thought I would be supporting the business owner – not BEING the business owner.
I am inspired by color, things I see in nature, current design trends – anything that catches my eye and that I think would look good on a tile coaster…..
Tulips!
Give us some ideas on how to have the most family fun during Spring?
Take advantage of all that is Spring – Easter Egg Hunts, color easter eggs, explore local gardens, walk outside in the rain, and get in shape for bathing suit season.

Where do you get your inspirations?

Welcome Spring Giveaway #1 - Mommysdream (Closed)
Although our Valentine's Giveaway has ended, we want to keep the fun going! We are starting another exciting series of giveaways to help you get ready for Spring! Today, our feature Etsymom is Cindy from Mommysdream (http://mommysdream.etsy.com/) and what she is giving away is truly unique and creative!
Before I let you know what the giveaway item is, let's get to know her a little more!
Tell us something about you, your family, your craft or your store?
I design and paint glassware and ornaments. All the designs are my own and I have created many custom designs as well. The most common question is “Will this design wash off my glasses?” After three years of happy customers, I can safely say, “No it won’t!”
I am a homeschooling mom of a teenage daughter and have been married to my wonderful hubby for almost 15 years. We do local craft shows and it has become a family event. I couldn’t do this without their encouragement and help!
What is the first thing you think of when someone said “Spring”?
I think of new life and hope. Every year, my daughter and I walk through our flower beds looking for the first daffodil to push up through the ground. (We tried planting crocus bulbs but the moles really like the taste of them!) I love to watch color come back and erase the drab of winter. There is a certain shade of green that comes out on the trees just as the leaves are beginning to show that is only there for a few days, and I wait for it every year.
Do you have a blog, facebook fanpage, twitter account or another store?
My Facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/MommysDreamBlog
Blog: http://mommysdreamcreations.blogspot.com/
Lens: http://www.squidoo.com/MommysDream
The winner of this giveaway will get a Set of 4 Butterfly Wine Glasses (painted with custom colors of winner's choice). See? I told you it will be unique!
Here is what you need to do to win:
Mandatory Entry - Visit Mommysdream and select one favorite item from the store, leave a comment with your email address (so I can contact you if you win).
5 Entries - Purchase any item from Mommysdream, leave 5 comments

Before I let you know what the giveaway item is, let's get to know her a little more!
What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?
My store name is “Mommy’s Dream Creations” (http://www.mommysdream.etsy.com/). My hubby came up with the name for the business when we first got started three years ago. It’s always been a dream of mine to create things that other people would like and be able to use. This business has enabled me to be able to stay home and continue homeschooling our daughter.
I have been an Etsymom for only a few weeks (and on Etsy for a few months), but I love the enthusiasm and encouragement that is shown throughout this group.
Nature will always be one of my greatest sources of inspiration. I am always in awe of the beauty and detail that God has created even in the smallest creature. I also love the timelessness of the ocean and my nautical designs come from this.
When my daughter was younger, it was all about the “newness” factor. Everything we looked at was as if she was seeing it for the first time. Now that she is a teenager, it’s more of a challenge, but she has not lost her love of mud and we have plenty of that after the spring rains! It’s also nice to be able to take our three dogs out and play with them more as the weather gets warmer.

A little humor (well a lot for me) for your weekend!
Hi Etsymoms, I found this in our Etsy forum and laugh so hard I almost fell off my chair! I have to share with you all! Hey it's the weekend right so why not have some humor!
This is posted by knotworkshop (http://knotworkshop.etsy.com/) under Business Topics in the Community Forum:
TITLE - Top 30 Reasons You're Not Selling
knotworkshop says:
I figured I'd list 30 so we'd almost always have one to blame for each new day of the month. If there are 31 days in any given month, just cycle back to number 1.
How to use this list:
Print it out. Cut each number up onto its own little slip of paper. Put them in a jar. Each day when you're wondering why you haven't sold anything, pull a slip of paper out and get your answer.
1) George W. Bush. Yup. Everything's his fault.
2) Barack Obama. Freaking socialist. Screwing up all this wonderful capitalism on Etsy.
3) The economy. Seriously people. Look around. Nobody has a job. Nobody has money. Why do they want your stuff when you have the nerve to charge them money for it in these tough times?
4) Relevancy- need I say more?
5) Recency- need I say more?
6) Resellers. Why would people buy my stuff on Etsy when they can buy Target's products here too? I mean seriously, what do I have that can compete with stuff from Target? It's so much easier for people to buy those things on Etsy than it is to just drive to their local Target.
7) Undercutters. Yes undercutters. I mean you. Everyone has their own reasons for naming a price. But I haven't seen William Shatner here so I'm pretty fricking sure this ain't Priceline. If you want to sell something that took you 22 hours to make for $10, you and I are going to have a problem. I'll meet you outside after school after the bell rings. Alone.
8) The weather. If it's hot, they don't want your stuff. If it's cold, they don't want it either. So strap yourselves in because whatever the season people ain't buyin what you're sellin.
9) Your prices are too high. You think folks want to pay $50 for some yarn tied in a bunch of knots? I don't care if it looks like a hat. It's a bunch of yarn. In knots.
10) Your prices are too low. Hmm. That item looks like a lot of work. Why are you only charging me $5 for it? Oh, probably because you live in a crack house and have swine flu. Yeah, I don't trust it. I'm going to go buy it from someone who will charge me $20 for the same exact thing.
11) People are stupid.
12) The internet is broken. Yes. The whole internet. Call Al Gore. I heard he can fix it.
13) You're never on the front page.
14) You're never in gift guides.
15) You're never a featured seller.
16) You're never in Etsy finds.
17) No one liked you in high school.
18) They don't like you here either.
19) People need to see your items in person to appreciate them. Okay, maybe not that underwear made out of cream corn, but you know what I'm saying.
20) You have your items on a gasp, real person, in your listing photos. I mean, come on. That necklace was completely sterile and free of all bacteria until you let it touch that ugh, HUMAN! Now it's no good. Sorry. Game over.
21) You are not showing your items on a human. How can I tell if those panties will look good on me when the mannequin doesn't have a spotty arse like mine? It's false advertising.
22) Your photos are too dark. Yes, yes, I know you're selling a lamp that glows in the dark. But still, your photos are just way too dark dude.
23) You need more items in your shop. Would you keep going back to Home Depot if they only had six flashlights and a pile of shingles in stock? I thought not.
24) You have too many items in your shop. I mean really, those huge stores like Walmart with tons and tons of items in tons and tons of different categories are never going to be successful. Nobody looks past the first five aisles. Oh, uh, wait...
25) Your items are aimed at too narrow of a market. I'm sure if there were more professional football players from Tasmania shopping on Etsy your tasmanian football helmets would be doing much, much better. Honest.
26) You have to go find your target market. No, I'm not going to tell you who they are or how you'll recognize them, but trust me, you have to find them. And fast.
27) Don't rely on Etsy to make your shop successful. I mean, I know we're on Etsy, and we pay money to Etsy and are here because it's well, Etsy. But yeah, don't count on them for a thing. If anything, pretend like they're working against you. You'll be better off.
28) It's a slow time of year. Maybe not for everyone else, but for you, that's the time of year it is.
29) You haven't built up enough momentum. So take all your inventory in your arms, put it in a shopping cart and send it down a hill to get some momentum going. Report back in the forums after the sales start rolling in.
30) You're not in the US. Just because people in your own country wouldn't buy it, doesn't mean that Americans are dumb enough to (hard to believe, I know).
Enjoy a good laugh ladies!

Etsymom Giveaway #9 - Sewbrookie (Closed)
Today is our last Valentine's giveaway and we are working on the next series of giveaways with a Spring theme! Today's giveaway is sponsored by Sewbrookie, a store that has truly unique items made with beautiful fabrics and all natual materials.
This is what Brook like to share about her store and herself!
What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?
My shop name is SewBrookie and I have been a member of EtsyMom since October 2009.
I really like the “I Heart You Hair Pins” (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_2&listing_id=39134830) because they are flirty and fun. I love the deep purple color in my hair when I wear my own set to keep my bangs out of my eyes. I don’t have any girls, but was envisioning them in a little girl’s curly hair when I made them. I like to live vicariously through my crafting! Haha!
Give us one tip on how you managed to create/sell/manage your store and at the same time be a busy mom?
I try to get my two boys involved in my crafting whenever possible. Okay, it is not often, but occasionally I can get them to tell me which color they like better or even help me cut out fabric or pattern pieces. Beyond that, I use the weekends and evenings to do most of my sewing. It is a good way to wind down the day and have some precious time to myself.

This is what Brook like to share about her store and herself!
What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?
My shop name is SewBrookie and I have been a member of EtsyMom since October 2009.
I don’t think I would label myself as an “artist,” a term I tend to associate with someone who paints or sculpts. I am more of a crafter/sewer. It started as a mere hobby, but quickly turned into something more. Instead of having all my crafting ventures sitting in a closet somewhere, I decided to give Etsy a shot and haven’t looked back.
I work full-time, supporting my hubby, our two young boys, and four animals. Being the head of the household has its challenges and can be a bit scary at times, but coming home to my three boys after work is amazing.
Becoming a seller on Etsy has been my way to escape the day-to-day grind. It is truly gratifying when someone else likes what I do enough to spend their hard-earned income on it. Every sale makes my heart flutter and my smile widen. It has been a wonderful experience.
What’s your favorite valentine’s item in your store?
Give us one tip on how you managed to create/sell/manage your store and at the same time be a busy mom?
I try to get my two boys involved in my crafting whenever possible. Etsymom Giveaway #8 - HotLavaClothing (Closed)
I came across Hot Lava Clothing while working on the weekly Holiday Gift Guide in December . I selected an item from this store because the dress is so cute and because the picture just made me feel warm (on a very cold day). So I am happy to introduce Hot Lava Clothing again on our Etsymom Blog! Tammy, the store owner, and I have since worked together to help promote each other on Etsy!
Let's tell you more about Tammy and her store:
What’s your store name and how long have you been an Etsymom?
My shop name is Hot Lava Clothing (http://www.etsy.com/shop/HotLavaClothing)
And I’ve been a Etsymom for just a handful of months now.
How did you get started as an artist?
It started about 5 or 6 years ago. My kids are slender and I found it difficult to find clothes that actually fit- for example my 5 yr. old daughter is a combo of a 18mo-2T waist and 5 or 6T length making most “big box” store clothing a difficult fit.
I love vibrant colors and at the same time I’m not a huge fan of a ton of frills. I like clothing to be fun and functional but not too “over the top”. Living and working in Hawaii provides a wonderful setting and atmosphere. What else could be better than tropical breezes, beautiful colors, and the tropical landscape.
What’s your favorite valentine’s item in your store?
Right now I absolutely adore the Red and White Linen Damask print Peasant Top . Linen is such a classic fabric and since its already been pre-washed and dried, meaning that you can wash & dry it as if it were anything else- no special washing instructions.

Give us one tip on how you managed to create/sell/manage your store and at the same time be a busy mom?
My family and 5 kids come first of course however I’ve found that early mornings and nap times work great for me. Somehow and sometimes I’m not sure how but it all works very well together :D
Tammy's giveaway item is the Girls Peasant Top Red Funky Flower and is available in sizes 6-12 mos to 11/12
Follow these simple steps below for a chance to win this really cute top:
Mandatory Entry - Visit Hot Lava Clothing and select one favorite item from the store, leave a comment with your email address.
1 Entries - Follow Etysmom Blog (current follower is also eligible), leave 1 comment with you user ID or name
